Code of Conduct

2nd September 2025

To help us all enjoy our time together we’ve put together some guidelines. These aren’t meant to be onerous or to inhibit our fun together; they are rather a way to help us all know what’s expected from us as members of the cast and crew.

Our commitment to you:

We strive to make sure everyone feels welcome, and we don’t want anyone to experience any discrimination based on their ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, sex and gender identity, religion or belief. So, we ask that we all be respectful, fair, considerate and honest in all our dealings with others.

If at any point you are unhappy, please arrange a confidential call with the Chair of The Players by emailing shorehamvillageplayers@gmail.com. They will discuss with you the action to be taken. You can also contact The President of The Players, Kate Britten at kate.britten06@gmail.com

Your commitment to us:

•Come to all the rehearsals you are needed at.

•If there are rehearsals you can’t attend give us as much notice as possible.

•Arrive 10 minutes before the start time so the rehearsal can start promptly.

•Be aware that the Director is the only person who should direct actors. Ideas may be welcome at a time decided by the Director.

•Learn lines as quickly as possible, by the books down deadline at the latest.

•Be respectful of the Hall or rehearsal space – help clear up at the end of rehearsals and be responsible for your belongings.

•Be responsible and take care of all props and set items. Remember that some are borrowed and are not replaceable.

•Be available to help with set build days, as well as set up and clear up days.

•Arrive on performance days 35 minutes before the start of the show.

•Take responsibility for your own health and safety needs, ensuring that your actions do not risk harm to yourself or others.

•Alcohol can only be consumed by people of legal drinking age and should not be consumed by performers and crew until after the show. Alcohol may only be consumed to the extent that it does not affect the comfort or safety of the cast or crew.

•Bullying and harassment are not accepted. There are some grey areas around jokes and banter that are hard to navigate. What for some people is a harmless bit of fun, for others could be offensive or upsetting. If in doubt don’t share the joke and be mindful if your actions are making anyone uncomfortable. If you feel uncomfortable yourself, come and talk to us.

•If children are in the cast make sure you have read the child safeguarding policy.
